Terms are listed alphabetically.

Agent. A coding assistant that runs in a terminal pane, such as Claude Code, Codex or Devin.

Bar. The vertical tab bar kittymux draws in place of kitty's tab strip. It can also sit at the bottom, top or right.

Deck. The sidebar overlay opened with ctrl+alt+b: every tab of every session, grouped, with live preview. See Peek, deck and panel.

Done. An agent state: it finished while you were looking elsewhere. It clears when you focus it.

Folder line. The line under a tab's title that says where the tab is: project[:worktree]/inner branch.

Hook. A command an agent runs at a lifecycle event, such as when it stops. kittymux's hooks call mux-status.

Inbox. The private store of typed events for everything that wants your attention. See Notifications and inbox.

Join. Moving a tab's panes into another tab as splits, keeping their arrangement. See Tabs and panes.

Journal. The record of every agent session, kept as it runs, used for history and recovery.

Kitten. A small program that runs inside kitty. The deck, the peek card and the join list are kittens.

Kitty Home. The picker opened with ctrl+shift+space for every session operation.

Leader mode. An optional tmux-style prefix: tap ctrl+space, then one key.

Limited. An agent state: a usage limit or quota is exhausted.

Needs you. The attention state for a pane that is waiting on you or limited. In the bar it shows as ! or ⊘.

Pane. A split inside a tab. kitty's own documentation calls it a window.

Panel. The deck docked as an always-visible column, on Wayland compositors with layer-shell.

Peek card. The small overlay you get by right-clicking a tab, showing its state, panes and the tail of its screen.

Rail. The slim nine-column form of the bar, showing only logos, numbers and state marks.

Remote control. kitty's way for programs to control it. kittymux recommends the socket-only setting.

Scanner. The in-kitty timer that reads each agent pane's screen twice a second and publishes its state.

Session. A named group of tabs for one project. Switching sessions parks the current one.

Settle. To fold a closed conversation away from pick. It happens by hand or after three days.

Spawn. To start an agent in a new tab or split.

State. What an agent is doing: limited, waiting, working, done or idle.

Tab. A kitty tab: a group of panes.

Waiting. An agent state: it is asking you something, such as a permission prompt or a question.

Working. An agent state: it is busy.

Worktree. A git feature that checks out another branch in a separate folder. kittymux gives each fanned-out agent its own, so they cannot overwrite each other.
